Acting Director of Engineering and Architectural Services Dan Bollman (center) accepts the 2013 Alliant Build America Merit Award in Palm Springs, Calif., at the National Association of General Contractors of America Convention. The award was given by the Association of General Contractors to the project team for the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum consisting of Barton Malow Construction, Integrated Design Solutions, Zaha Hadid Architects and Michigan State University for outstanding achievement in state-of-the-art-advancement, project management, innovation in construction techniques or materials, safety record, client service, community relations and environmental sensitivity.

The April CJ was a special edition held in order to help campus commuters learn more about how to navigate most efficiently around campus during the busy summer construction season. Attendees enjoyed snacks and treats, a Captain Construction appearance and trivia questions with prizes.

When cooling campus buildings during the warm months, MSU stays environmentally friendly. This includes converting steam from the T.B. Simon Power Plant into chilled water to provide cooling. Photographed above is an absorption chiller located in the Regional Chilled Water Plant. The absorption chiller converts steam from the power plant into chilled water for cooling purposes. From May to August, Infrastructure Planning and Facilities will conduct various construction and maintenance activities that may discolor the water supply throughout campus.
Each year, MSU prepares to provide cooling to campus facilities in mid-spring. IPF employees carefully plan the timing.
Construction Planner/Inspector/Analyst II Ken Gottschalk recently led a team of MSU students to Las Vegas for the annual National Association of Home Builders Residential Construction Managment Competition.
