Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I request service?

A: If you have an emergency or require immediate assistance, call 353-1760. To request routine or special services, complete an online service request. Check the service guide for more detail on types of requests and as well as the Manual of Business Procedures.

Q: How do I check on the status of a service request?

A: Contact IPF Customer Service via e-mail customer@ipf.msu.edu or call 432-0250. See the Manual of Business Procedures.

Q: I have a question regarding Physical Plant job charges.

A: Contact IPF Customer Service via e-mail customer@ipf.msu.edu or call 432-0250.

Q: How do I get my office painted or the windows washed?

A: To request routine or special services, complete an online service request. Due to budget cuts, interior painting and window washing were eliminated. However, special funds are occasionally allocated for interior painting on a "worst case" basis.

Q: May I go off campus to contract services such as painting?

A: IPF will obtain off-campus services if requested by any department. However, contractors must adhere to many University polices, such as competitive bidding, paying prevailing wages and having adequate insurance, among a variety of other regulations. See Alterations & Improvements for more information.

Q: I am filling out a form that requires me to enter my building number. Where would I find that information?

A: For online service requests, you may type part of the building name or building number in the building field and click on the magnifying glass. All buildings containing any part of the building name or number will be displayed. Click on the location for the work to be done and it will return the official building number. Specific building information (name, number or location) can be found on the Engineering and Architectural Services website on the interactive map or on the building number list.

Q: How do I find the hours of a particular building?

A: Academic building hours are posted at the building entrance or call Custodial Services 355-8485. If you wish to request a change in building hours, see the Academic and Administrative Building Hours Policy. A permanent change in building hours must have the approval of the appropriate dean or major administrative unit administrator and concurrence from Classroom Scheduling and IPF.

Q: What are the funded responsibilities of Infrastructure Planning and Facilities? How do you prioritize service?

A: See Funded Responsibilities.

Q: Who do I call if I have a problem such as ants or bees, or wish to report a trapped or injured animal?
